Your wedding reception toasts can set the mood for a great party, if they’re done right. Here are some tips:

Best Man Goes First

That’s one of the perks of being Best Man. Traditionally the toast begins as soon as the wedding party is seated. That’s when everyone’s attention is focused on the head table. Keep the toast brief, or you’ll risk losing people’s attention. If you want to tell one story about the groom, that’s fine. But don’t tell any “inside jokes” about the groom unless everyone in the room is in on the joke. If a guest says, “I don’t get it,” then that person will feel uncomfortable. And that’s not a good thing at a wedding reception.
